Description

When authenticating with the SharePoint Tools connector, the below error is presented:

An unexpected, non-retryable error stemming from the directory service has occurred

Environment

SharePoint Tools Connector

Cause

This error occurs when Client ID and Client Secret are generated from SharePoint (ex: https://YourOrg.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/appregnew.aspx). When these generated values are used within the Connector, the error occurs.

Resolution

Use the Client ID, Tenant ID, and Secret Value from the App registration created in Azure AD rather than the values generated from the SharePoint instance.
