Error: The Hyper server process exited during startup with exit code: 1
TableauServer.Publish.TDE.yxmc Record #1: TableauServer.OutputDataConditionally.yxmc Failed to start a new Hyper instance. Context: 0x86a93465 Caused by: The Hyper server process exited during startup with exit code: 1 Command-line: ""C:\Program Files\Alteryx\Bin\Tableau\bin\hyper\hyperdstarter.exe" -x "database_directory=C:\:Users\(user_name)\AppData|Local\Temp" - x "fallback_on_unknown_locale=en_US" - x "Log_config=file.json.all.hyperd.0"
When publishing a Hyper file via the Output Data tool, an anti-virus interferes with the communication pipes HyperD.exe utilizes.
Cause 2
When publishing a new .hyper file, an environmental issue occurs that leads to a corruption of components in the Publish to Tableau Server macro. When this cause occurs, you might still be able to generate .tde files and overwrite existing .hyper files
Cause 3
The error could be due to other settings besides anti-virus, such as those from a proxy server. Some compatibility issues with the newest 2.0 version of the Publish to Tableau tool do not occur with the 1.09 version.
Resolution 1
Whitelist HyperD.exe (located in \Alteryx\bin\Tableau\hyper\bin\hyper from all Anti-Virus software including any heuristic scanning.
Resolution 2
Follow the steps for a complete uninstall in the following KB article. Then, reinstall Alteryx Designer. When using versions prior to 2018.4, the Publish to Tableau Server tool must be reinstalled from gallery.alteryx.com in the Alteryx Product District.
Resolution 3
If whitelisting the hyper folder is not an option or the issue persists, using the 1.09 version of the tool is a possible workaround. You can download the 1.09 version of the tool from gallery.alteryx.com in the Alteryx Product District. It requires Alteryx version 2018.1 and Tableau Server 10.5 or more recent.
Except for the ability to attach a .tds file for data source metadata with the output to Tableau, the 1.09 version has the same functionality as the 2.0 version.
The newer 2.0 version of the tool comes with Designer by default since 2018.4. One known issue to note is that switching from version 2.0 to 1.09 and back to 2.0 causes the Configuration Panel to blank out.
After downloading and installing, right-click a Publish to Tableau Server tool, select Choose Tool Version, and Publish to Tableau Server 1.09.2.
