Access Alteryx Designer through Alteryx One by either downloading and installing Designer Desktop or using the cloud-based version. This guide also covers license activation and creating your first workflow.
- Alteryx Designer: 2025.1 or later
- Platform: Alteryx One
- Operating System: Windows (for Desktop version)
- Browser: Latest version of Chrome, Edge, or Firefox (for Cloud version)
Choose how to access Designer
In Alteryx One, you can use Designer in two ways:
Option 1 – Designer Desktop (download)
- Best for: large datasets, offline use, and full tool palette.
- Requires a Windows installation.
Option 2 – Designer Cloud (browser-based)
- Best for: quick access without installation, working from any device, and sharing workflows in the cloud.
- Runs entirely in your browser.
Access Designer Desktop
Summary of steps:
- To get started, sign in to your Alteryx One workspace. The Alteryx One Platform login page provides detailed information about your login credentials and access steps.
- From the Designer Desktop tile, select Download.
- Choose the installer type:
- Admin version: installs to Program Files, requires admin rights, available to all users.
- Non-Admin version: installs to your AppData folder, no admin rights needed.

Run the installer and follow the setup prompts.

Access Designer Cloud
Summary of steps:
- Sign in to your Alteryx One workspace.
- From the Designer Cloud tile, select Launch.
- Designer Cloud opens in your browser with no installation required.

Activate your license
Licensing is managed through Alteryx One and works for both Desktop and Cloud.
Summary of steps:
- Online activation: Sign in with your Alteryx One account; Designer activates automatically if your role includes a license.
- Free trial: Sign up for a 30-day trial, then activate with your trial Workspace Admin or Full User role.
- Other methods: Offline activation or license keys are available if required.

Create your first workflow
Once Designer is installed (Desktop) or launched (Cloud):
- Open Alteryx Designer.
- Drag an Input Data tool to the canvas.
- Select or configure a data source in the Configuration pane.
- Add additional tools and connect them to form your workflow.
- Click Run to execute the workflow and view results.
