How To

Using SharePoint Unified Connector with the Service Principal authentication requires you to enter the URL to the list in the Path field when configuring the tool. Please follow the steps to obtain the link and paste it into the Path field.

Environment
  • Alteryx Designer
    • Version >= 2025.1
  • Unified Connector
    • SharePoint >= 3.1.0

Prerequisites
  • Authentication Type
    • Service Principal

Procedure
  1. Go to the SharePoint site and to the list that you are using.

NOTE: Please make sure that the SharePoint site has been added to the service principal with read/write permission if the sites.selected API permission is used on the service principal. Please refer to the article if needed:

  1. Copy the URL from the browser address bar.

Example

NOTE:  Please avoid using the URL of the list that contains special characters (other than underscore "_"), as using the URL of this list will not work. Please use the URL of another list from the same site, without special characters. All available lists on the site will be populated, and you can then select the required list.

Example

  1. In the Input Data tool or the Output Data tool, configure the tool to use Data Connection Manager (DCM), if it is optional.
  2. In the Data connections window, select Data sources and look for Quick Link under Microsoft SharePoint Lists.

  1. Add a new DCM connection or use an appropriate existing connection.
  2. Once the data source is connected, paste the URL in the Path field in the tool and hit the <ENTER> key or click anywhere in the window.

  1.  Once the valid URL is entered, you may see the following options.

  1. Select the list you need and click the Next button.

NOTE:

  • The "File or Folder URL Required" message in the configuration window will be replaced with an appropriate message to indicate a list instead. A defect (TCO-3446) has been logged to address this.
  • There is also a feature request to use the Copy Link in the SharePoint list in the Path field. The SharePoint Files supports this, but not the lists.
