Description

When adding tools to the canvas or when joining tools by creating a tool connection on the canvas, Designer returns an "Unhandled Exception" error as shown in the following image:

 

This image shows the Unhandled Exception error dialog in Designer. 

 

On the machine, the AlteryxGUI error log with a matching date-time stamp from C:\ProgramData\Alteryx\ErrorLogs\AlteryxGUI shows the following error:

Type: System.DllNotFoundException
Message: Unable to load DLL 'AlteryxBasePluginsEngine.Dll': The file cannot be accessed by the system. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070780)

...

 

The Event Viewer Application logs on the machine show various other .dll file error messages such as:

Access is denied
The specified module could not be found
Environment
  • Alteryx Designer
    • Version 2022.3
Cause

Corrupt system files in the Windows Operating System were causing problems with loading Alteryx .dll files.

Resolution

Reinstalled the Operating System on the affected machine.
