Install Alteryx on a Mac.

Procedure

Alteryx is designed to operate on Windows and we do not support the product on other platforms. However, you can run it on a Mac by creating a Windows environment using a virtual machine.

 

  1. Boot Camp : This utility allows you to install Windows on a separate partition of your Mac's hard drive, enabling you to boot directly into Windows.
  2. Virtual Machine (VM) Software: Applications such as VMWare Fusion , Oracle VM VirtualBox (open-source), or Parallels Desktop allow you to run Windows within macOS, simulating a Windows environment without rebooting.

     

    Users of newer Macs using ARM-based M# chips will not be able to use an emulator to run Designer fully.

     

    How to Install Alteryx Designer on a Mac (Using a Virtual Machine)

     

     

    1. Set Up a Virtual Machine (VM) on Your Mac

     

    You will need to install a virtual machine software to run Windows on your Mac, such as Parallels.

     

    Steps:

    1. Download and install the virtual machine (VM) software on your Mac.
    2. Launch it and follow the prompts to install Microsoft Windows. You will need a valid Windows license to activate your copy.
    3. Complete Windows setup (create a user account, update system settings, etc.).

     

    2. Configure Your Windows VM for Alteryx

     

    Ensure your VM is properly resourced and up to date:

    • Allocate at least 4 cores and 8 GB RAM for smooth performance.
    • Install all pending Windows Updates.
    • Install Microsoft .NET Framework and Visual C++ Redistributable if prompted by Alteryx later.

     

    3. Download the Alteryx Designer Installer

     

    Go to the Alteryx Downloads Portal

    1. Log in with your Alteryx credentials.
    2. Select your version of Alteryx Designer.
    3. Download the full installer (.exe file).

     

    4. Install Alteryx Designer

     

    1. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
    2. Launch Alteryx Designer and activate your license.

     

    Notes and Tips

    • Performance depends on your Mac’s hardware. Newer Macs with M-series chips (M1, M2) may require specific steps to run Windows ARM via Parallels.
    • File Access: Ensure your Windows VM has access to Mac folders if you want to open local files in Alteryx Designer.

     

    Consult your IT department for guidance on the preferred method for your setup.
